Trail Information

The East Rosebud Trail is a popular 26-mile hiking and horsepacking trail to Cooke City.  This hike takes in the first three miles up the East Rosebud Canyon to Elk Lake, a seven-acre lake surrounded by mountain peaks.  The trail parallels East rosebud Creek, passing a 50-foot waterfall along the way.  Part of the trail winds through the burn area from the 1996 fires.  There are super views of Shephard Mountain to the west and Sylvan Peak to the east.
