The East Rosebud Trail is a popular 26-mile hiking and horsepacking trail to Cooke City. This hike takes in the first three miles up the East Rosebud Canyon to Elk Lake, a seven-acre lake surrounded by mountain peaks. The trail parallels East rosebud Creek, passing a 50-foot waterfall along the way. Part of the trail winds through the burn area from the 1996 fires.
